Blueprint for an Active Australia

The Blueprint for an Active Australia provides evidence-based actions to help address physical inactivity.

In 2019, The Heart Foundation introduced the third edition of the Blueprint for an Active Australia. This publication is the result of collaboration between The Heart Foundation and Australia’s leading experts on physical activity. It presents an irrefutable and urgent case for change, and presents evidence-based actions that can form the basis of a community-wide approach to address the major public health problem of physical inactivity.

Australians need to get active

Australians don’t do enough exercise. The statistics around those who are missing out on the health benefits of exercise, and therefore are putting their heart health at risk, include:

  • 6 in 10 adults

  • 3 in 4 seniors

  • 8 in 10 children and young people

Too many of people are missing out on the physical activity needed for good heart health. This needs to change and the actions in our Blueprint will help.

The Blueprint contains 13 action areas, each contributing to the main objective of increasing the amount of time that people in Australia spend being physically active.
