Heart failure diagnosis and care webinar

Improving diagnosis and care for heart failure patients.

The Heart Failure webinar includes key information about the diagnosis, prevention and management of heart failure.  Watch the webinar to know expert views on new evidence, recommendations and have an in-depth discussion about a heart failure case study.  

What’s in the heart failure webinar? 

This webinar is for health care professionals. Three of the authors of the 2018 heart failure clinical guidelines discuss the new evidence and recommendations from the guidelines.

  • What’s new in the 2018 guidelines. 
  • A panel discussion on the prevention of heart failure, diagnosis of heart failure and diagnostic classification, comorbidities and management and recommendations incorporating recent evidence.  
  • Panelists use a heart failure case-study to discuss key practice points and common clinical challenges arising in the management of heart failure patients.

The webinar is chaired by the award-winning health journalist, Dr Norman Swan, and the panel consists of: 

  • Associate Professor John Atherton 
  • Associate Professor Ralph Audehm  
  • Dr Ingrid Hopper

Associate Professor John Atherton  

Dr Atherton is a cardiologist and chair of the new heart failure guidelines. He is Director of Cardiology at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Associate Professor at the University of Queensland, Professor at the University of Sunshine Coast, Adjunct Professor at the Queensland University of Technology, Honorary Fellow at the University of Melbourne, and Pre-eminent Staff Specialist Queensland Health. Dr Atherton is also an appointed member of the Australian Government Medical Services Advisory Committee. 

Associate Professor Ralph Audehm  

Dr Audehm is a full-time general practitioner. He’s the secretary of the Section of General Practice, at the Australian Medical Association, and is involved in research and teaching at the University of Melbourne, Department of General Practice. 

Dr Ingrid Hopper  

Dr Hopper is a general physician/clinical pharmacologist and consults in the Alfred Hospital heart failure clinic in Melbourne. Ingrid completed her PhD in heart failure therapeutics. She is an NHMRC early career fellow, senior lecturer, and head of drug and device registries at the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Monash University.
