About Catalyst Partnership Grants 

The Heart Foundation is Australia’s largest non-government funder of cardiovascular research. We are committed to advancing knowledge to better prevent, treat and manage conditions including heart disease, stroke and blood vessel disease. 

For over 60 years, the Heart Foundation has funded the brightest minds to undertake research to improve cardiovascular health, investing more than $720 million (in today’s dollars).   

Catalyst Partnership Grants are a novel, collaborative way of funding innovative ideas and solutions to improve cardiovascular health in Australia. They are an exciting addition to our existing suite of grant and fellowship funding schemes.  

Catalyst Partnership Grants provide the opportunity to connect innovators with investors and collaborate with our extensive network to help improve the heart health of all people in Australia.  

What are we looking for?

  • A ‘game-changing’ idea that will transform the way we improve cardiovascular health in Australia
  • Proposals that are novel, innovative, impactful, feasible and have investment potential
  • Identification of key partners and the potential pathway to translation/implementation

What makes these grants different?

  • Finalists will be supported by the Heart Foundation to further develop and test their idea to pitch at a showcase event to potential investors
  • The Heart Foundation will partner with Catalyst Grant recipients to seek long-term investment to bring their idea to life

What are we looking for? 

We are looking for big, bold and brilliant ‘game-changing’ ideas to help us further combat cardiovascular disease in Australia and globally.

  • Ambitious ideas that are high-impact, scalable, feasible and fundable. 

  • A desire to partner with us to make a real difference to heart health in Australia and beyond. 

Who can apply? 

Unlike traditional research grants, these grants are open to all sectors, and levels of experience and expertise.  

What is the application process? 

The application process will involve four stages: -  

  • Stage 1: Expressions of interest open on 27 May 2024 and close 5 July 2024. 

  • Stage 2: Selected applicants with the best and brightest ideas will be invited to submit a full application in August 2024. 

  • Stage 3: From the 50, ‘20 of the best’ top 20 applicants will be invited to work with experts in October 2024 to February 2025 to develop their pitch for the showcase.  

  • Stage 4: The top 20 applicants will then pitch their ideas to potential investors and collaborators at the Catalyst Showcase!  The 10 winners will then be announced following the Showcase event. 

These Catalyst Grants have the potential to change the way we explore and pursue new ideas to improve cardiovascular health now and into the future.

FAQs

Catalyst Grant Finalists must be able to commit to the development and refinement of their pitch and engage with an external consultant as required, over the period of mid-October – February, excluding end of year closure/break.

No. Catalyst Grant applications are open to individuals, teams or organisations from any sector. The only requirement is an ABN. 

There is no limit. 

Accelerate your idea to improve heart health

Work with mentors and experts to help you get your proposal ‘showcase- ready’ with a compelling pitch deck to present to potential investors and partners.   

Identify and communicate the fundability and potential impact of your idea on heart health in Australia and beyond

Receive expert input and advice to identify and articulate the potential impact of your idea. Experienced investment advisors will also provide you with guidance on prospective funding sources.

Collaboration to get your idea off the ground

The opportunity to present and pitch your idea at the showcase in front of a captive audience of potential investors and collaborators from across philanthropy, industry, venture capital, social impact, and government sectors. Receive guidance and feedback about your idea.

The 10 awardees of a Catalyst Partnership Grant will then partner with the Heart Foundation receiving support with the opportunity to: 

Build your reputation and broaden your networks and connections

Opportunity to connect to the Heart Foundation’s network of potential investors and collaborators from across philanthropy, industry, venture capital, social impact and government sectors.

Partner with the Heart Foundation

Access to explore options with you to use our strong, recognisable brand (and brand assets) and broader expertise and resources to help gain traction for your idea and project.

Receive potential financial benefits

Awarded $100,000 to accelerate your idea and help bring it to life.

Attract prospective investors

Work with the Heart Foundation team to help secure the further long-term, high-impact investment required to bring your idea to life, publicise your idea to a wider audience, and close evidence gaps by implementing your innovation.
